Blue Oak Ranch Reserve Videos

Blue Oak Ranch Reserve opens new facilities, UC Berkeley

Thanks to a major renovation project, Blue Oak Ranch Reserve now offers space for more than 50 overnight visitors, a classroom, meeting space, solar system, and commercial kitchen facilities, all operating entirely off the grid.

Advanced environmental sensor network at UC Berkeley nature reserve, UC Berkeley

Blue Oak Ranch Reserve features a state-of-the-art wireless environmental sensing network. Scattered across the 3,280-acre reserve, each of the network nodes measures temperature, rain, sunshine, soil moisture and more, and sends it back to the campus to be processed and analyzed. The information is utilized by reserve researchers studying how climate conditions affect plants, animals, and their life cycles.

The oak woodlands and grasslands of this classic California landscape and NRS reserve offer opportunities for intensive microclimate studies, research into regenerating oaks, and chances to introduce urban children to nature.
