NRS Mildred E. Mathias Graduate Student
Research Grant Program
The Natural Reserve System provides grants to support graduate students at all UC campuses except UCSF for their independent and field science studies at NRS reserves. These grants not only encourage students to conduct research, but also provide experience in applying for grants, meeting deadlines, and managing a budget. Awardees are expected to produce a paper or report, or present their findings in a suitable forum. Additional Mathias Grant information.

Recipients of Mildred E. Mathias Graduate Student Research Grants are invited to present their findings at the Mathias Symposium. The weekend-long event is held every other year at one of the NRS’s reserves at Bodega Marine Reserve for the award recipients.
The symposium is supported by the Kenneth S. Norris Endowment Fund for the California Environment, which was provided to the NRS by the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.
