Tracking freshwater through California ecosystems

The NRS has received a $2.179 million grant from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation to track the pulse of water through California's ecosystems. Based largely at NRS reserves, CHI-Freshwater will use new sensing technologies such as drones and wireless sensor networks to observe plant responses to environmental conditions. The information will help Californians forecast the fate of habitats and adjust land use plans in a changing climate. Read more >>

NRS interns at Point Reyes National Seashore

Meet the five UC undergraduates who landed internships at Point Reyes National Seashore this past summer thanks to a partnership between the NRS and the National Park Service. Internship areas included range management and vegetation ecology, dune restoration and rare plant management, archaeology, and wildlife ecology. Hear what it's like to be a science intern at the park in their own words. Read more >>

The physiology and ecology of California's redwoods in a changing world
Professor Todd Dawson of UC Berkeley will describe the role of redwood trees in the water cycle of their forest environment. A plant physiologist, Dawson studies how trees modify their own habitats to inform land management practices in our changing climate. RSVP
